Escape Room Katwijk has been since its first room (Bella Ciao), where I celebrated my birthday 5 years ago, one of the local favorites and has currently all their three rooms in the Top 50 of escapetalk.nl. Bella Ciao and Here I am were both finalists in Terpeca in the last two years.

Based on all the above, we had quite some expectations about their newest room Pray, which was stepping into new terrain by incorporating an actor, something that is still quite exceptional in the local Dutch market.

If I had to sum up the room in one phrase, I would say that it is as if the Dutch escape room market had a baby with the Athens escape room market. There are some traits connected with the puzzles and the flow which remind me of the many good rooms there are in the Netherlands but then again incorporating a general setting idea and cinematic role of the actor (beyond the mere scaring) that is typical of many Athens rooms.

For the local market it is without any doubt groundbreaking and I am sure local enthusiasts that have not been abroad will find this an absolute novelty, because as already stated it incorporates elements that are rare to non-existent in the Netherlands. For the well-travelled enthusiast, the assessment is of course different, as actors are frequently used in Spain and Greece and this alone is not a novelty. However, I can say without any doubt that Pray is a must-do when visiting the country.

Personally, I think that this is the best room of the company and it is deservedly among the best of what the Netherlands has to offer, being at the time of writing this the number 1 room in the Netherlands based on escapetalk.nl. It is however well-known that the Top 50 of escape talk.nl and the ratings of international players do not necessarily converge (most prominent example is The Dome), so I am really curious if this room will make it into the Terpeca winner list this year.

Independently of this it is a room I thoroughly enjoyed, which definitely enriches the local and international escape room market and which I can wholeheartedlyrecommend.
