I played Ciudad Halloween a couple of years ago, and back then it was only available in Spanish. I was surprised to see it appear in TERPECA last year, as I didn’t expect it to be offered in English.
In short, Ciudad Halloween stands out for being a room absolutely packed with riddles. If you look at the pictures on social media, a large percentage show group photos with zero time left on the clock. I remember when I booked the room as a team of two, the owner texted me saying: “I saw your booking — it’s a tough game for two.” And indeed, it’s a game where you won’t stop moving if you want to finish in time.
Given that the industry has evolved toward more experience-based games, it’s great to play one that focuses so strongly on puzzles. The room is also nicely designed and a real delight for fans of The Nightmare Before Christmas like myself — someone who has watched the movie countless times and knows every song by heart.
While external knowledge isn’t required, I’m sure the room feels more special for people familiar with the movie, as they’ll catch the numerous references. Moreover, it’s an original theme for an escape room, and it’s always refreshing to play something different.
