Dolls’ House from Lostland in Chengdu is currently also available in multiple cities including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Jinhua and other cities. The original version in Chengdu is still the most recommended version.
Lostland started producing their original games since 2020, and their works all share the same Worldbuilding as “Lostland Town”. In their early years, Lostland launched Come Back and Unpeace, which founded their own style of strong emotions.
Come Back took a Victorian style, and told a story about a fallen family taking each other’s company as their final wealth.
Unpeace told a story of a pair of sistere in a mental hospital, where they struggled about their “abnormalties” judged by the outsider’s eyes.
Although these two games lacked delicate sets & lightings, they certainly arose strong resonances among players.
Lostland didn’t stop at these two, so they established a new series as “the 7th Block”. The games from this series have more delicate artworks, better atmosphere, more advanced horror designs and of course, stronger feelings.
This series now holds three games: Dresser, telling a deep story of death and love, The Next, telling a story of greed and desire, and, Dolls’House we’re about to talk about.
Dolls’House seemed to be a unique game since the day it was launched. Unusually, Lostland launched it without any kinds of formal advertisement, almost dropping it just all of a sudden.
This strange confidence led players to the edge of their waiting seats, with Dolls’House later proved to be Lostland’s best work for now.
Dolls’House tells the story of a old woman who runs a doll store in 7th Block. She build wonderfully lifelike dolls, but some bad rumors about her dolls being “cursed” and “ominous” spreaded across the town.
Since she was non-verbal, she couldn’t defend herself and her dolls against the rumors. So she grew a dream to travel to the other side of the ocean, escape this town, and stand on bigger stages.
One faithful day, she got an order with a huge payment that would allow her to fufill her dreams. But just as she was about to finish it, she discovered that the owner of the order doesn’t admire her dolls, just wanted to use them to smuggle drugs.
She was caught in a huge dilemma between her dreams and her moral standards. In the end, she chose to finish the dolls and burn everything down eventually, including herself, her dreams, her dolls and her store.
The storyline is absolutely tragic, almost in a cruel heartbreaking way.
For this reason, Dolls’House quickly became one of the most resonated games, not only among Lostland games, but also among most of the Chinese games.
The designer used a 3 minute long silent acting to show the fire in the end, which leads me into tears every time I experience it (I’ve already experienced this game 9 times till this point and have cried over 10 times).
However, as the script itself is highly idealist, the degree of resonance will definitely vary with person.
So just by this high-quality script alone isn’t enough for a game in 2025, and the director clearly knows that well. Therefore, despite the most tragic script, Lostland also presented the best horror designs in Dolls’House.
Dolls. I believe this certain element alone is creepy enough for most people.
Speaking of dolls, it’s simple to come across some scary effects using the Horror Valley Effect. However, Lostland didn’t use much of that.
Instead, Lostland presented some stunning stunt effect with their actors, which will let most players scream out “OMG” instead of just “Whoa!”.
When most people see a doll grow into a 2 metre tall monster, it’s just really hard not to be amazed.
Also, the director took great advantages of their actors. With only 3 actors, Lostland accomplished some effects that almost seemed like 6 or more actors, which is absolutely incredible to witness with naked eyes.
The actors even used lighters as props, to produce the effect of flashes of light.
Other than the actors’ performances, the atmosphere greatly contributed to the scare factor also.
During the entire process, the director used extremely dim yellowish lights to create a dark, eerie atmosphere.
The actors’ position are also extremely flexible and almost impossible to predict, adding more to the scare factor, making it the top scary immersive theater games in China.
Personally I just love this game so much that I would enjoy it for so many times.
“Struck in the gap between dreams and reality, is the short lifetime of ours”
“Though the cold winter may still stay long, spring will come in the end”
