Hammer Killer

This is a review of the Escape Room “Hammer Killer” offered by The Works Of Madness in Alicante, Spain.

This room was the winner in the category Best Original Experience at the Spanish Room Awards 2024, and after playing it, I completely understand why.

I don’t think there’s another country with such a variety of high-quality escape games as Spain. Among the types of games Spain particularly excels at are those that incorporate humor. Without a doubt, it’s the European country with the most games that successfully blend humor — sometimes even with horror.

Unfortunately, due to the generally low level of English among the local population, many rooms are not (and most likely never will be) available in English, making them inaccessible to the average traveling enthusiast.

Sadly, this is one of those games.

It’s extremely difficult to explain why this room is so good without spoiling the concept behind it. From the very beginning — or even before you start — you’ll find yourself wondering, “What on Earth are we playing?”

The amount of laugh-out-loud moments is incredible; at one point, I was literally doubled over laughing. This is definitely not a room for beginners, but rather a fantastic experience for those who have played quite a few games already, as only then can the full brilliance of the concept be truly appreciated.

I don’t want to say much more about the game, because the less you know the better, but it showcases what you can dowithout a huge budget but with lots of creativity.
