We recently visited The Missing Link in Geel for the third time. After playing Jumanji (2020) and Till Death Do Us Part (2022), this time it was Henry’s Birthday on the agenda. Like its predecessors, this game clearly belongs among Belgium’s very best escape rooms (currently ranked 11th, 13th, and 21st on escapetalk.nl). One striking trend: the playing times keep getting longer-70 → 75 → 90 minutes.
The original setting of a mysterious birthday celebration impresses with detailed design, atmospheric staging, and a narrative that unfolds step by step. Instead of classic horror, the room leans into subtle suspense, clever surprise effects, and above all the presence of a live actor seamlessly woven into the action. The encounters are never overwhelming, which makes this an excellent choice for teams who haven’t had prior experience with actors in escape rooms.
The puzzles deserve special praise: creative, varied, and smoothly integrated into the storyline, they provide a great sense of flow. Compared to many horror-themed rooms, the challenges here are notably demanding, creating a satisfying balance between tension and rewarding puzzle-solving. In smaller teams (2-3 players), the linear structure works especially well, while larger groups will need good coordination to keep everyone involved.
All in all, Henry’s Birthday delivers a richly atmospheric adventure with strong storytelling, original puzzles, an excellent use of live acting, and a fitting finale. It’s definitely one to add to your playlist for the next trip to Belgium.
