As the saying goes, save the best for last! That’s exactly what we did—ending our three-day adventure in France with the two most talked-about new rooms: THE TAXIDERMISTE by Deep Inside and LE GRAND HÔTEL DE PARIS by The One Escape. Our journey truly culminated with unforgettable experiences in both, but nothing prepared me for the last room.
I’ll admit, I had certain expectations for the Grand Hôtel de Paris—and they couldn’t have been more off the mark. The surprise was all the sweeter. I never imagined stumbling upon a French horror escape game that could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the famed blockbusters of Greece or Spain.
We found ourselves playing the part of invited guests at the illustrious Grand Hôtel de Paris, a glamorous and storied venue where movie stars, politicians, and celebrities of decades past once gathered. The hotel’s historic charm shines, particularly with its beautifully preserved hydraulic elevator—one of the earliest of its kind, still functioning as a testament to the building’s innovative spirit.
What elevates the Grand Hôtel de Paris above so many other rooms is its immersive atmosphere. The actors—both hotel staff and mysterious “guests”—are utterly convincing, expertly creating an environment that is as authentically sinister as it is captivating. The mood is intensified by a perfectly selected soundtrack and evocative lighting, which together cultivate a constant sense of tension without depending on cheap jump scares.
The room’s layout is masterful, giving the illusion of a much larger, winding labyrinth full of surprising reveals and awe-inspiring moments. Clever design tricks make every corner feel distinct and mysterious, boosting the overall sense of scale and discovery.
The narrative unfolds like a well-crafted horror movie, punctuated by cinematic cutscenes and an engaging backstory. Each twist pulls you deeper into the world of the hotel, ensuring the tension never lets up.
Puzzles integrate flawlessly into the environment, offering a satisfying challenge while never disrupting the overall flow. Progression is quite linear, making it easy to stay immersed in the story. Lighting and audio cues gently funnel attention toward the next objective, ensuring that players are never left floundering. Every solved puzzle delivers immediate, clear feedback, so the pace remains brisk and satisfying.
Ideal for 2–4 players, the Grand Hôtel de Paris promises an outstanding experience for both beginners and seasoned escape enthusiasts alike.
