Midnite is the third and newest escape room from OuterGround, currently rated 9.9 on escapetalk.nl (as of September 2025) – placing it second among the top rooms in the Netherlands. Following The Execution and Jason’s Legacy, it marks another step forward for this company. It’s impressive how consistently high the quality of new escape rooms in the Netherlands and Belgium remains – one of the main reasons we keep coming back to this hotspot. Since 2018, this was already our twelfth trip to the region, with the sole purpose of experiencing outstanding games.
We managed to get tickets for a midnight screening in a cinema that already gives off a slightly eerie feeling as soon as you walk in. The host comes across as somewhat peculiar, strange noises can be heard in the background, and the building itself looks like it hasn’t been cared for properly in years. Of course, we tell ourselves it’s just our imagination – after all, we’re here to enjoy the show.
The welcome is extremely warm and sets exactly the right tone for the experience. After the game, the hosts take their time for an in-depth debrief, even discussing specific moments during play. A real highlight is the behind-the-scenes tour, which reveals just how cleverly the technical elements are designed and how precisely they contribute to the overall impact of the production.
The setting impresses with its successful blend of detailed set design, atmospheric lighting, and fitting sound effects. Together, these elements create an authentic cinema atmosphere that perfectly frames the story. It quickly becomes clear that the focus is on the overall experience, with the puzzles seamlessly woven into it.
The tasks integrate smoothly into the narrative, making the flow of the game feel organic. Variety and accessibility ensure that the team keeps making steady progress. The role of the actors is outstanding, adding intensity to the experience with carefully timed jump scares. In terms of horror, the room is unusually strong by Dutch standards, though still far from the extreme experiences you might find in places like Spain or Athens.
At times, the game requires you to cover longer distances – for some, almost a bit of a workout. With some team coordination (or a player with a photographic memory), however, the extra movement can be managed quite well.
Midnite combines atmosphere, story, puzzles, and performance in a seamless and entertaining way. OuterGround once again proves that their rooms are well worth the trip. If you’re looking for a well-crafted midnight screening, Rijswijk is the place to be.
