Introduction
Sometimes a room appears out of nowhere — and suddenly everyone is talking about it.
That’s exactly what happened with The Crimsons Recipe. We hadn’t even heard of it before, and then it climbed to the number one spot on escapetalk.nl. Naturally, we were curious. What was behind this sudden hype? So we checked availability… and quickly realized we weren’t the only ones asking that question. On the weekends it’s hard to find available slots for quiet some time but we were luck to find a slot.
Standing there on the day of our booking, stepping into that welcoming bar atmosphere, we knew this wasn’t just another stop on our trip.
Story & Emotion
What made this experience so special for me was the storytelling — and especially the way sound carried it.
It is often difficult for escape rooms to truly communicate the story, especially when layered with subplots and emotional depth. Here, it was done beautifully. The narrative unfolded with clarity, and at times we even felt personally addressed and guided through it.
The sound design deserves its own standing ovation. It wasn’t background music — it was immersive, directional, alive. Voices surrounded us in a way that made the world feel inhabited and real, creating intimacy, tension and heartbreak within seconds. What I loved most was the emotional range: we laughed out loud at certain moments, and later I found myself holding back tears.
Set & Atmosphere
One thing that impressed me beyond the visuals was how intelligently the set was used.
Sometimes you move through a beautiful escape room environment that feels underutilized. That is absolutely not the case here. Every inch of the space feels purposeful. The progression through the environment surprised us more than once —because of how cleverly the physical space supports the narrative. There were moments where we genuinely looked at each other thinking, “That’s smart. We haven’t experienced it like this before.”
On top of that, the polish is exceptional. Everything feels solid, intentional, and immersive. After the game, we were told they are still refining certain elements — observing players, adjusting details, improving flow. Not because it’s necessary, but because they care. You can feel that this room isn’t just installed and left untouched – it’s nurtured. The love and passion of the owners is visible in every corner — and that dedication elevates the entire experience.
Puzzles & Teamwork
Every task felt thematically integrated and justified. Instead of interrupting the narrative flow, the puzzles deepen it. We always understood why we were doing what we were doing, and that made the experience cohesive and satisfying.
With three players, everyone stayed engaged. I would recommend not more than 3–4 players to maintain that immersive feeling and ensure everyone remains involved.
There are also moments of lighthearted interaction that players who have experienced the room will definitely remember — small touches that create shared laughter without breaking immersion. Those are the kinds of memories that stay with you.
Final Thoughts
The Crimson’s Recipe is about emotion, about atmosphere, about storytelling done right.
For me, it stands out as one of the best soundscapes I have ever experienced in an escape room. The way the audio guided, immersed, and emotionally connected us to the story was exceptional. It made me laugh. It gave me goosebumps. And in the end, it truly moved me.
If you value immersive storytelling, emotional depth and a great scenery, this is an experience you should not miss.
