This was the second room we played at Enigma-tic, the first being ‘The Master Builders Path’. Although it is not obvious from the title ‘Missing’ is one of the better homages that I’ve played to the Netflix phenomenon that is Stranger Things.

The room is filled with lots of subtle details which fans of the show will appreciate, but the gameplay doesn’t rely on the players having detailed knowledge of the plot or characters of the tv show. One of our team has never watched an episode and had no problems with the narrative. Even the usual tropes from the series are used creatively and to maximum effect.

It is not in the biggest area for a game, but the use of the space is nicely executed and I was particularly impressed with one effect which was arranged for maximum effect to ensure that all team members could see it.

We progressed through the game well, just with an occasional nudge to point us back to our to search fails! The puzzles all made sense and were logical, and mostly fit with the theme to the TV show. The narrative was rather condensed (well, there is alot of story in the tv show to pack in) and the ending did feel alittle rushed, but it fit well with the final puzzles and it all ended in success.

This is a great room to play for both Stranger Things fans and non-fans, go immerse yourself in a tiny part of Hawkins and enjoy.

I've been an escape room enthusiast since 2015, back in the days where a pigpen cipher was included in every single room. Based in Scotland I soon ran out of rooms to play and regularly travelled around the UK to get my escaping fix. I joined Heiner's extensive team during a trip to Athens, and since then we have played over 500 avatar rooms and countless "in real life" rooms together across Europe and North America.
