“Everything’s better with Pirates”
Lodge, The Gamers 2:Darkness Rising

There are a few themes that instantly attract me and pirates is one of them. Pirate themed rooms are a popular choice for escape rooms and I’ve certainly played a few so was more than happy to sign up for this remote room.

The story was relatively straight forward, hidden treasure, lost ship, old curses, etc.

The theming was excellent throughout, you were actually on a wooden pirate ship! Hidden sections were revealed and other clues led to the ultimate prize. The puzzles were relatively straight forward, implemented well and completely in with the theme of the room. The game is linear but relatively straightforward and flows well from one puzzle to the next. There was a lot of tech in the room and this all worked well.

Video/Audio was done via Zoom and was stable throughout, there was an inventory system but this was their own and worked relatively well and we were able to fully engage with the room. The inventory worked by the avatar giving you codes to enter and items were revealed, this helped for some items that didn’t show up well on the video feed. One niggle was that there was in-room audio which did not translate well via Zoom but this is a common problem with all remote rooms that feature it but the Avatar was able to relay any pertinent information that we needed. For me, this was right up there with Lost Pyramid both in terms of visuals and overall gameplay. This game was completely family-friendly and a lot of fun to play.
