This is a review of the Escape Room “The Doomed Expedition” offered by One Hour in Paris, France.

One hour is one of the companies usually recommended in Paris and with this game they made it into the Top 100 of the TERPECA.

I don’t want to say much about the topic, as the website describes it as exploration of a mine, but given that this game has exactly the same name as a game in Spain and “expedition” is not usually associated with a mine, the clever reader might guess what the underlying topic might be.

In any case mine or not, the topic has been exploited (too) many times in the escape room industry and it’s difficult to spark the same enthusiasm for a hardcore escaper, also given that many comparison points are available .

However, I really enjoyed the game and there were a few point that stood out and deserve recognition. The intro was really well done by the game masters and the transition into the room is really nice. Maybe not particularly surprising for anyone having played 100+ games, but always nice to experience and certainly fantastic for the newbie.

The game has a lightly spooky touch, which is not usually found in this kind of games, but the aspect that I enjoyed the most was the fact that the game included a series of bonus tasks , which were so cleverly conceived from its design, that I was internally applauding during the game. I also loved one particular mechanism in the room. When you count your played room by the hundreds , it is extremely joyful to find original elements/ideas.

Overall, a very convincing game that enlarges the list of nice games to be found in Paris, which with 4 winners this year and many finalists presents itself as an attractive city for the travelling enthusiast.
