The American horror film „The Exorcist“ is one of the greatest film successes of the early 1970s and one of the absolute cult films of its genre.

It is about the 12-year-old girl Regan, who is possessed by demons. After all medical examinations have failed, Regan’s mother turns in her desperation to the Catholic Church, which sends two exorcists who try to save the defaced girl by exorcising her devils.

This classic, which was nominated for 10 Oscars and won two (for the best script and the best sound), is the inspiration for No Exit’s ninety-minute horror escape game „El Exorcista“.

No Exit runs two more Escape Games – THE MANISON (60′, ‪2-5 p‬.) and ROUTE 666 (60′, ‪2-5 p‬.) – which unfortunately were not yet playable in English at the time of our visit. But they are working on it.

El Exorcista is limited to 3-5 people, which I find remarkable, given the scope of the project. Nikos, the operator, and his team spent eleven months using their technical know-how and passion to construct this room. Not only at with lots of sweat but also with high investment costs. Quite the endeavour as they did everything on their own.

This project is a matter of the heart and not commerce, making it a dream for us players. It would be tragic to destroy this unique experience by overcrowding.

After the game we had a short chat with Nikos & Liana. We could really feel how much they love their project and are proud of it. And rightly so!

But what makes El Exorcista so special?

The storytelling: The plot of this cult movie is reproduced excellently in this Escape Game. Those who have seen the exorcist will recognize a lot of scenes from it. And best of all, you can play in the movie yourself. I loved it from the intro to the finale! An Oscar for the best adapted script!

The atmosphere: I still get goose bumps when I think about it. The setting is 100% coherent. Light and sound are always in tune with every scene. An Oscar for light, sound and scenery!

There are plenty of moments of shock and surprise: things happen that you don’t expect. But never at the wrong time or in the wrong place. Even if El Exorcista is a horror escape game (scare factor 8/10), there are also moments when you can solve puzzles undisturbed. The riddles, which are often the weak point in this genre, were thoughtful and logical, thematically fitting and well-integrated into the scenery. An Oscar for cut and directing!

The technique: Honestly, I’ve never seen such things and mechanisms in an escape game before. Dude, what’s going on? I thought I was in the wrong movie. An Oscar for the special effects!

The acting: What an awesome performance! I was speechless and even — no kidding — applauded loudly once during the game. An Oscar for the leading actress!

To sum up, I can confirm that El Exorcista was rightly ranked number one in the poll, because for me it’s a masterpiece and the best Horror Escape Room I’ve ever played.

Aber was macht El Exorcista so besonders?

Alter, was geht hier ab?
